Blog Post #2

Summary :

In Ian daily's virtual popularity inst cool its pathetic he explains how all of the social media fame and status means nothing and explains on how its pathetic. He exclaims that its not real and that grown men shouldn't be spending hours of there time checking updates and statuses . Many people believe that they are doing something with social media , but he believes that its all useless . Gaining over 2000 Facebook friends to him means nothing in real world .

Analysis:

I believe social media can be used for good and bad. Not everyone who gets on social media waste there time. For an example some people actually use it to keep up with there friends and to stay in contact with family members. I use social media as a tool for marketing in ways that i could have never before. For an example I like to share what I do with my side job of a videographer with many People around the world . This a task that is virtually impossible otherwise .

Summary :

In chapter three of I Know Why The Cadge Bird Sings A former white mayor comes to warn supporting character Momma that a white Mob is coming to the store to look for a black man to lynch. He warns her that they are not looking for anyone in particular but just for an escape goat. Momma is worried for another characters life so she hides him in the onion and potato bin. The mob looks for willie but are unable to find him so they leave. Momma and Maya are very happy that the mob doesn't find him but take note that he could have been caught and killed.

Analysis :
This is scary to know as a black man that during that time you could become someones escape goat reason to kill some one and it would be fine. The idea of being killed for no reason is insane and would a very scary reality. This reminds allot of the movie The Purge Anarchy . The movie is an example of what life would be like if all crime were legal for a day . Ultimately I believe it is very similar to the way this time period was .

Summary : The Murder Of Emmett Till

In this article the author writes the big uprising that the murder of Emmett till brought upon the United States during the 1950's. He explains that before this there was never a national case to gain this much attention. He further explains how big of an impact that one case made on not just the USA domestic policies but the world view of the USA also. The event is still very impactful today with many artist making songs and tributes to the event. He furthermore talks about how the event was not something that was uncommon to hear about but this particular case was able to gain national attention. He gives reasons of why this one did and it was because of the push his family was able to do and the help of popular magazines such as time and life.

Analysis :

I believe that if is wasn't Emmett Till it would have been someone else. Its sad to know that it happened to an innocent soul , but I believe that it had to happen. It helped push for the civil rights movement which helped more people than not and helped changed the justice system to be more fair. I compare how his mother used the media to her advantaged to the same way Treyvon Martin's family used in the Zimmerman case to gain national eyes on the court decision. Its amazing to think that still in today's society things like this still happen .

Why We Love TVs Anti-Heroes By Garret Stephen

Summary:

In Stephen Garrets article he talks about why we love the Anti-Hero in TV shows. He then goes on and gives some examples of some of the most popular TV anti heroes such as Tony soprano and Don Draper. He then goes on to ponder on the thought of why we love these characters who do so much harm so much ? . Furthermore he begins to depict on how they can make us decide between whats morally wrong and whats not for them, even though it would be different for ourselves.

Analysis;

I believe that we love TV anti heroes because deep down inside of us we all are a little bad. I believe that sometimes in society we all wish we could do something bad , its human nature. Nevertheless it has been ingrained into us that such are morally wrong so we don't. I believe that sometimes the morally wrong choice is the right one sometimes and I believe that in some cases we all believe that . For an example a man robbing a liquor store to get monetary gain is bad , but if a man id robbing a liquor store to feed his family its seen as not as bad. Ultimately they are both doing the same crime but one is looked upon more lightly.

Is social Networking Making Us Stupid Iyad Rahwan, Dmytro Krasnoshtan, Azim Shariff and Jean-François Bonnefon

Summary:

In this article on Social Media the writer discusses a brief analysis  of if social media is making people stupid. furthermore he begins to talk about what type of affect does social media have on us making an informed decision. He then talks about a study that was done on group college students to see whether or not social media helped them make better informed decisions by comparing 5 groups of students to each other. A few of the groups had no social networking and the others had different variations of networks to use. Ultimately the results came back and an adequate answer to the question could not be resolved. In some cases it did and other cases it didn't .

Analysis :

I feel that social media in some cases could cause some people to look stupid but as for the most part it helps more than hinders. Now that we have the ability to easily see whats on other peoples minds, we can easily compare our thoughts to their owns. For an example I don't make a purchase  without doing heavy online research and almost always I am satisfied with my purchase decision even without never testing the product before. The internet is one of the most open places in the world and I feel social has just made it even more free.
